Will Woodson & Eric McDonald house concert, 4/4

Will Woodson (border pipes, wooden flute, tin whistle) & Eric McDonald (guitar, mandolin, voice)
House concert in Arlington, 4/4, 7:30pm
Suggested donation $15-20pp + a dessert to share at intermission
email notlobreservations@gmail.com for more info / reservation.

Will Woodson & Eric McDonald are two of the finest young proponents of traditional Scottish music today. With an unusual blend of wind and plucked strings, they bring a breath of sensitivity to a tradition that is often known for its high velocity. Their unique approach, while rooted in the indigenous music of Scotland, is also informed by the vibrant traditional music scene of their native New England. Border pipes, wooden flute, tin whistle, guitar, mandolin, and voice fuse together to create a detailed fabric of tunes and songs. Soaring reels and swinging jigs give way to more contemplative ballads, each displaying the organic chemistry of the duo. Their music is equally at home in a concert, festival or pub atmosphere. You can see them touring across the country bringing their unique brand of Scottish music to the stage as well as around the thriving music scene of Portland, Maine, where they reside and share a teaching studio.

The Emma Beaton Band
featuring Nic Gareiss
Saturday, March 28, 8pm
Park Avenue Congregational Church
50 Paul Revere Road, Arlington

"...The Emma Beaton Band first coalesced at several music camps and began playing together late at night after square dances and evening-long fiddle tunes sessions. The songs they sang became the last music of the night.  Today, their music retains a sense of staid nostalgia and quiet, almost secretive intimacy, grounded in Celtic and Americana traditions, but ultimately all their own. Their eponymous CD was nominated for a Canadian Folk Music Award for 'Traditional Singer of the Year...'"

Ellie and Suaima | Jenna and Mairi
Sunday, March 22, 7:30pm
Outpost 186

186 Hampshire Street (Inman Square) Cambridge

Ellie & Sumaia

As long-time friends from their studies at Berklee College of Music, Ellie Buckland and Sumaia Jackson explore their mutual love of songs with accompaniment of guitar and fiddle. To this new project, both musicians bring backgrounds in American Old Time Appalachian music as well as Bluegrass and Celtic fiddle styles.
Stemming from these influences comes Ellie's original songs, complemented by Sumaia's engaging and lyrical fiddle playing. As a duo, their delicate interpretation of songs demonstrate a deep understanding of the melodic and rhythmic aspects of traditional roots music while blending elements of contemporary sound.

Jenna & Mairi

Rooted in traditional Scottish and Appalachian Old-Time music, Jenna and Mairi have developed a sound which celebrates and explores beautiful melodies. The pair met whilst studying at Berklee College of Music and are a product of the thriving and rich Boston music community. Jenna and Mairi have both been heavily steeped in tradition, but their arrangements push boundaries with original compositions and breathe new life into old tunes.
