The son of a member of folk trio Schooner Fare, there was always a sort of expectation that Dave would “join the family business,” which he did at the tender age of 15. With thirteen critically-acclaimed recordings under his belt—by himself and with his various bands—and a career in the music business that has endured for some 26 years, Dave is a force to be reckoned with. A long-time staple of pubs and music halls throughout New England, Dave has spent more than half of his life playing sing-alongs having a rollicking good time for himself. He has decided it’s time to take his well-honed solo show on the road to concert halls and festivals around the US and Canada.  Having cut his on-stage teeth on the rough edge of Irish pubs, Dave is a singular entertainer, able to relate to even the most reticent audience members and get them singing along. He firmly believes that singing is balm for the soul, and that singing together—whether in choirs, in pubs, at concerts, or in kitchen parties—is a primary part of the human experience (it certainly has been for him). Half Polish-half Colombian guitarist Stash (short for Stanislaw) Wyslouch grew up on heavy metal before submerging himself in bluegrass and country music. His history in hard rock still manifests itself in his propensity for wringing unexpected sounds out of his guitar and belting at the top of his vocal range.

Since graduating from the Berklee College of Music in 2010 Stash has been touring full-time with the progressive bluegrass band, Rounder Recording Artists The Deadly Gentlemen having released two albums as guitarist and singer of the group, "Carry me to Home" (2011) and "Roll me, Tumble Me" (2013). His resume also includes membership in The Boston Boys, Blue Moose and the Unbuttoned Zippers, and a US-State department sponsored tour with The Earth Stringband in 2011, being the first all-American band to play in the country of Timor-Leste.

Stash has played at many well-known festivals and venues including Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival (Oak Hill, NY), Old Settler's Music Festival (Austin, TX), Northwest String Summit (Portland, OR), DelFest (Cumberland, MD), Rockygrass (Lyons, CO), Big Sky Big Grass (Big Sky, MT), Merlefest (Wilkesboro, NC), Savannah Music Festival (Savannah, GA), River City Roots (Missoula, MT) among some of them. His touring career has taken him across the globe to Sweden, Denmark, the UK, Germany, Czech Republic, Austria, Switzerland, Timor-Leste, Thailand, Cambodia, Korea, Japan and Laos.

Stash has shared the stage with The Del McCoury band, David Grisman, The Yonder Mountain Stringband, Sarah Jarosz, Chris Thile, Peter Rowan, Michael Daves, Darol Anger, Greensky Bluegrass, The Infamous Stringdusters, and more. After nearly a decade of touring and recording, Stash is working on his first solo release as a band leader delivering his unique and edgy blend of heavy metal and American roots music, to be released in the Summer of 2015.

Ellie & Sumaia

As long-time friends from their studies at Berklee College of Music, Ellie Buckland and Sumaia Jackson explore their mutual love of songs with accompaniment of guitar and fiddle. To this new project, both musicians bring backgrounds in American Old Time Appalachian music as well as Bluegrass and Celtic fiddle styles.  
Stemming from these influences comes Ellie's original songs, complemented by Sumaia's engaging and lyrical fiddle playing. As a duo, their delicate interpretation of songs demonstrate a deep understanding of the melodic and rhythmic aspects of traditional roots music while blending elements of contemporary sound.

Jenna & Mairi

Rooted in traditional Scottish and Appalachian Old-Time music, Jenna and Mairi have developed a sound which celebrates and explores beautiful melodies. The pair met whilst studying at Berklee College of Music and are a product of the thriving and rich Boston music community. Jenna and Mairi have both been heavily steeped in tradition, but their arrangements push boundaries with original compositions and breathe new life into old tunes.

Nate Sabat, bass A graduate of the voice program at New York City’s renowned LaGuardia High School, Nate Sabat’s musical roots are in choral singing. However, he started playing bass just before he began at LaGuardia, and, years later, was accepted to the Berklee College of Music as an upright bass principal. There, he has made it a goal to delve into the thriving Boston acoustic music scene, inside and outside of Berklee. He has only recently began playing Scandanavian folk music, and intends to continue to pursue it, hopefully in Sweden or Norway for an extended amount of time. www.natesabat.com Elise Boeur, violin and hardingfele Canadian fiddler Elise Boeur ties together diverse influences with a deceptively light touch - her distinctive, silvery tone belongs to a world of its own. Following her intensive study of Norwegian traditional music at Høgskolen i Telemark, Boeur is joyfully exploring the reaches of contemporary Scandinavian folk music on violin and hardingfele.  www.eliseboeur.com Sumaia Jackson, fiddle Boston-based fiddler, Sumaia Jackson, has roots in Scottish and Irish fiddle styles, and for the past few years has delved into the rich tradition of Appalachian Old Time and American fiddle. Throughout her years on the West Coast, Sumaia was immersed in California's diverse music scene, blending elements of Jazz, Bluegrass, Scandinavian and Celtic styles. She continues to incorporate aspects of each of these styles into her playing creating a vibrant, groovy sound. Outpost 186 is an all-ages venue.

Blanca & Chuchi Alcuadrado are two young Spaniard musicians in the vanguard of their respective instruments, young but with enough background and experience. They play violin and acoustic guitar respectively — two "traditional" instruments with which they revive the music of Burgos and the rest of Castile, though with strong Celtic music influences. Obsessed with music since childhood listening to her grandfather Simon, a dulzaina player from the city of Burgos, Blanca was determined to record an album in homage to him and found her best ally in Chuchi, guitarist of the prestigious group Vallarna. With a packed house, as always, the duo offered their particular vision of various traditional dances including paloteos, wheel dances, habas verdes, sword dances and jotas, plus some of their own compositions, songs that sounded very happy in their hands. Blanca & Chuchi Alcuadrado form a duo with a great future. So far they have collected their excellent work in a remarkable album released last year under the title of Mayo, whose secret lies in its natural and sincere offering without artifice.

About It

At age 17, Alex Rubin turned his interests from classical violin to bluegrass guitar, and has yet to reconsider. As a high-school student in Boston, MA, he quickly formed a band, The Wooden Spoons, and recorded at Hi-n-Dry, the Cambridge recording studio founded by Morphine frontman Mark Sandman. Making use of the vibrant Boston bluegrass scene, Alex studied privately with Berklee professor John McGann as he completed his undergraduate studies at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. He has since moved back to Boston, where he works as a performer and guitar teacher.

Since picking up the banjo at age 12, Catherine (BB) Bowness has travelled throughout New Zealand, Australia and the United States playing and teaching bluegrass music. At age 15, she received the Frank Winter memorial award at the Auckland Folk Festival allowing her to travel to the USA, where she won the Uncle Dave Macon banjo contest in Murfreesboro, TN. She was the first banjo player accepted to the New Zealand School of Music, receiving a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance. In 2013, BB was one of just sixteen young musicians selected to attend the Savannah Acoustic Music Seminar, studying with world-class artists such as Julian Lage, Mike Marshall and Darol Anger. Since re-locating to Boston last year she has kept busy recording, performing and teaching in and around Massachusetts.

She has toured throughout the UK and in Europe as well as performing in the USA, with highlights including appearances at Celtic Connections Festival, Glasgow; Gent Festival of Flanders; The Edinburgh International Harp Festival, and Zakir Hussain's Pulse of the World at BT River of Music Festival, London 2012. Mairi was a BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award nominee in 2010 & 2011, and Finalist in the BBC Radio Scotland Young Jazz Musician 2010 & 2012 and BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician 2010 & 2011. She was also winner of Celtic Connections's Danny Kyle Award in 2010 with the group Kilairum. Since September 2012 she has been a full-scholarship student at Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. -Jenna- Jenna Moynihan is a young fiddler on the acoustic music scene, known for her unique and distinct voice on the fiddle. Raised on Chautauqua Lake in New York State, she first picked up the fiddle at the age of 6. She spent summers at various fiddle camps throughout the country, honing her craft with many masters of fiddle and garnered many awards in her youth at Scottish Fiddle competitions. Jenna received a scholarship to attend Berklee College of Music in 2009, where she studied with Darol Anger, Matt Glaser, Bruce Molsky, and Mark Simos. During her years at Berklee, Jenna received the Fletcher Bright Award and the American Roots Music Award, both given annually to an outstanding fiddler. She graduated with honors from Berklee in 2013 with a degree in Violin Performance and a minor in American Roots Music. She has performed in the US, Canada, France, and Scotland with various groups including Folk Arts Quartet, Atlantic Seaway, Darol Anger's Republic of String's, Bonnie Loch Fiddlers & more. In 2012, Jenna was invited to participate in the first-ever Acoustic Music Seminar in Savannah, Georgia, which brought together the new wave of acoustic musicians alongside many accomplished veterans, including Edgar Meyer, Zakir Hussein, Chris Thile, Tony Trischka & more. Also in 2012, Jenna performed alongside the world-renowned classical-crossover soprano, Hayley Westenra and the Boston Pops at Symphony Hall.

JORDAN TICE AND SIMON CHRISMAN

You may be aware of Lord Geoffrey by last Fall's 8 concert series of rising young talent enrolled at Berklee and NEC*, but he has another side, that of presenting established nationally touring

musicians (Darol Anger, Rushad Eggleston and Paul Geremia, just to name a few). In that light, on Wednesday, April 2 we are presenting two top-shelf string players, JORDAN TICE and SIMON CHRISMAN!

JORDAN TICE
Jordan Tice is a guitarist and composer from Annapolis, MD who currently makes his home in Brooklyn, NY. The son of two bluegrass musicians, he grew up playing with various bluegrass bands around Maryland until 2005 when he enrolled at Towson University to study music on full scholarship. In addition to his studies, the next four years were also marked by performances and recordings with the likes of Mark Schatz and friends, Frank Wakefield, Darol Anger, and "Corbett, Chrisman, and Tice" featuring Wes Corbett on banjo and Simon Chrisman on hammered dulcimer. Jordan's collaboration with Corbett and Chrisman yielded a self titled record which was listed as one of the Chicago Tribune's top 5 "best compact discs of the year" in the bluegrass/newgrass category in 2008. Also in 2008, Jordan released his second record as a leader entitled "Long Story". The record, featuring all Tice originals as well as an all-star band of Casey Driessen, Noam Pikelny, Andy Hall, and Mark Schatz, brought about rave reviews from acoustic music publications for its "engaging and melodic tunes" and "inspired solos" (Bluegrass Unlimited) as well as being a "very musical album" (The Bluegrass Blog). Other highlights include being featured on the cover of the January 2011 Flatpicking Guitar Magazine and performing the music of actor/comedian Steve Martin for Shakespeare's "As You Like It" at New York City's esteemed "Shakespeare in the Park" in summer 2012. 
Jordan's current project, The Jordan Tice Trio, features Paul Kowert (Punch Brothers) on bass, and Simon Chrisman on hammered dulcimer. Their debut release "The Secret History" released in late 2011 has been praised as containing "exceptional craft" (Bluegrass Unlimited). In addition to performing with the trio, Jordan can be seen playing with Tony Trischka, the Footworks Percussive Dance Ensemble, The Dan Trueman/Brittany Haas Band, The Depue Brothers Band, Lily Henley, and Mariel Vandersteel.

SIMON CHRISMAN
Hammered dulcimer wizard Simon Chrisman tours with the Bee Eaters, has performed with Mike Marshall and Darol Anger, opened for Bill Frisell, and at 16 was a scholarship guest artist at the Augusta Heritage Festival in West Virginia. His sophisticated rhythmic sense and ingenious tonal flexibility, on an instrument usually considered limited, has created a buzz among musicians all over the world.

Elizabeth and Ben Anderson, a brother/sister Scottish fiddle duo, is an up and coming new band in Boston's thriving Celtic music scene. Blending Scottish and Irish tunes with lively rhythms and innovative harmonies, they create a sound rooted in tradition, inspired by the contemporary, and completely original. The pair is originally from Westborough, MA, and has been playing to enthusiastic audiences throughout Massachusetts for the past five years, most recently at the prestigious Boston Celtic Music Festival. Elizabeth is a three-time Junior regional Scottish fiddle champion and a current student at the Berklee College of Music. The duo has released their first recording, a 4-track self-titled EP.

The concerts are presented at Outpost 186, 186-1/2 Hampshire Street, Inman Square, Cambridge where there is plenty of space and on-street parking / close to the T.  It's an art gallery with plenty of room to move, not a bar where artists compete with loud conversations and blaring televisions, or a cramped listening room where patrons are packed into tiny tables. Patrons are encouraged to bring string instruments for the after-concert pickin' party.

Dylan McKinstry is 24 year old multi-instrumentalist, producer, and composer working and living in Minneapolis, MN and attending NEC.

Dylan, who has been called “…a vibrant young acoustic music architect with a bold new approach to guitar playing…’’ has always been a fond proponent of story-telling and the language of song. Within a single song McKinstry will sashay seamlessly between the usual suspects: jazz, blues, folk-funk, classical and modal middle-eastern with a hint of disco. With ease, he dances in and out of styles and genres, leaving his foot-tapping audiences pleasantly plump with melodies to hum. Dylan’s athletic, high caliber technique and mature compositional style can only be compared to the great guitarists of today, and has allowed him to turn the 6 string guitar into a sonic mélange. He has secured himself a place at the ”big kids table” of musicians, and is widely acclaimed by fellow guitar players like Dean Magraw, Andy Mckee and Michael Gulezian as being one of the most promising young guitarists of his time.

Dylan started as a session player at the age of 8, mostly as a percussionist, after it became clear that his passions stretched far beyond whimsical recreation. He has since performed on dozens of records, along side Pete Ostrushko, Larry Long, Meredith Fierke, Kurt Jorgensen, Paul Mayasich, and many others. His openness to new ideas, his thoughtfulness and range as a musician, and his ease in the studio has made him a sought after session player throughout the twin cities.

Dylan has attended a handful of exclusive seminars held by some of the top guitarists in the world. Cannington, Ontario was the first of many stops, where he studied in a small group setting with guitarists Don Ross and Andy McKee, both of whom took a liking to Dylan immediately and said of his music ”…Cool!”. From there he flew to Paris, and found himself in the little village of Chateau-Thierry at the home of French guitarist Pierre Bensusan. Besides the allure of fresh baguettes every morning, he found himself completely at ease and inspired in this kind of learning environment, and he left there with a head bursting with new ideas.
Out of High school, McKinstry began playing full-time as a soloist and as a sit in musician for Minneapolis bands. It was in this capacity that he honed his skills as a Mandolin and Mandola player, and has since found that his savvy as a soloist and mason of melodies lends itself well to ensemble playing. He is currently working closely with twin cities recording artist Meredith Fierke as a producer, songwriter, and general team player on her new album, which it slated to be released in the late summer of 2012.

He has shared the stage with Dean Magraw, Dan Schwartz, Little River Band, Brandi Carlyle, The Minnesota Orchestra, Alison Scott, Needtobreath, and many more! He is currently performing, producing and recording with twin cities recording artist Meredith Fierke. He also continues to do solo performances as a guitar player/singer.
