Happy anniversary to us!

The saying goes, one always remembers their first. In our case, that would be "Sometymes Why" (Ruthy Merenda, Kristin Andreassen, and Aoife O'Donovan), presented at the Loring-Greenough House in Jamaica Plain on June 2, 2009. The back story is Ruthy, and husband Mike Merenda, a.k.a. "Mike+Ruthy", were booked to perform the following Saturday, but a week or two prior, Aoife came up to me at Toad in Porter Square and asked, "do you know I have a girl band?" 

These 18 years have been filled with serendipitous many moments like that. Another time was when Natalie Haas called, pitching a concert: "friends are coming from Spain to play at my wedding, could you give them a gig?" Hell, yes! Natalie's friends were Blanca and Chuchi.

Or, related, when Britany Haas, who was booked for a house concert in Watertown, called, asking, "do you mind if my sister plays, too?"  That took 2 seconds to decide.

Or the time before a Rhythm and Roots festival, I was standing on the shoreline of Ninigret Park in Rhode Island, receiving a phone call from Rushad Eggleston, "I'll be in Boston next week, can we do a show". Yes, it is possible to secure a venue, get publicity our, and have a full house less than five days when one has "top-shelf" talent and a loyal patron base.

Or the time I was at one end of the room when in came George Emlin and Patrick Swanson of the Revels, scouting that evening's talent, Jenna Moynihan and Mairi Chaimbeul, who were booked as featured musicians for that year's Revels.

We're not presenting as often these days, but when we do, be assured the talent will continue to be "top-shelf". See our history below, and remember, the Norwegian Blue prefers kipping on its back.
