The 2018 Line-up
Anna & Elizabeth, Cedric Watson, Hubby Jenkins, Mike Bub in the Lineup for Oldtone This Year

Hillsdale, NY, April 11, 2018 The Oldtone Roots Music Festival 2018, September 6-9, 2018
Cool Whisper Farm, 1011 County Rt 21, North Hillsdale, NY, 12529.

Oldtone Productions continue their  carefully curated old-time music line up with the return of some Oldtone favorites and some exciting new folks. Roots music fans will be delighted to hear that the Appalachian Mountain duo Anna & Elizabeth (recently featured in the New Yorker) will be bringing their harmonies and their art to the Hillsdale festival. Also new this year are Oldtime Blues artist Hubby Jenkins (Carolina Chocolate Drops), Creole artist and former member of The Pine Leaf Boys Cedric Watson, well known upright bass player Mike Bub (Del McCoury band). Other new artists include Five Mile Mountain Road (bluegrass), cajun fiddlers Joel Savoy and Kelli Jones, roots trio Pete’s Posse, and the Balkan Romani Gypsy duo Eva Salina and Peter Stan.

The returning lineup makes up Oldtone’s core, with some of the most exciting roots artists today. The Oldtone host band, is the well-known Foghorn String Band from Portland, OR, Oldtone’s favorite Cajun band Jesse Lege and the Bayou Brew will be returning to the Main and Dance Stages, as will the old time darlings Bill and the Belles. Bill and the Belles are the house band for Farm & Fun Time which is hosted by Radio Bristol producer and house band-leader Kris Truelsen, (the show is hot in the Roots music world right now). The Down Hill Strugglers are also making waves, and band member Jackson Lynch recently played the Half Moon with his band Jackson and the Janks, the Hudson hot spot that Oldtone partners with for their SuperTone promotional shows. Nora Brown, the young up and coming roots banjo player captured the festival’s hearts and minds last year with her appearance on the “tweener” stage and has a place on the Main Stage for 2018.

Oldtone organizer Kip Beacco stated; “I can’t begin to tell you about all the amazing artists we’ve got coming this, year, it’s breathtaking.”

“Oldtone is the good ol’ days. I have never had such fun playing music as I did in the dancing tent in the Oldtone Country Revue - the smell of sawdust from the freshly built stage, the twinkling lights, and the warm summer air on our skin as dancers twirled and two-stepped by. Oldtone is a dream.” stated singer Lauren Ambrose.

The Third Annual Oldtone Roots Music Festival Heats Up, Adds Little Country Giants

The Third Annual Oldtone Roots Music Festival Heats Up, Ads Little Country Giants

Hillsdale, NY, August 20, 2017
Cool Whisper Farm, 1011 County Rt 21, North Hillsdale, NY, 12529.

Increasing the anticipation locally and in the American Roots Music community, Oldtone Productions added Little Country Giants to the line up. Delivering pure, simple, and timeless rustic songs touching on country, bluegrass, and rural blues, husband-and-wife duo Cameron Federal and Russell Cook produce artful work on par with the finest of the expansive genre. This last minute booking rounds out an already-busting-at-the-seams smorgasbord of the best in traditional musicians gathering for the festival.

Producer Kip Beacco stated; “It’s hard to imagine it can get much better, short of bringing back some of our Roots heroes who have long since passed on. We keep getting lucky -- we were able to secure Little Country Giants at the last minute.”

“Participation is preservation” is the motto of Oldtone Productions. This event is a full participatory festival with performances, workshops, informal jam sessions and all-ages entertainment on the main stage, workshop and dance stages, and throughout the campground. Participants and artists are dedicated to playing Old-time music in the Old-time way. The artists perform old and new songs which reflect the timeless themes of love, loss, family, and adventure, with an underlying sound that is pure and organic, like it was in the days gone by.

"Kip, Matt, and Jim have a really clear vision of the experience they want to create and a deep passion for this music." states producer Beth Carlson.

The lineup this year starts with nationally known bands Foghorn Stringband, The Revelers, Jesse Legé, David Davis and the Warrior River Boys and  Karl Shifflet and Big Country Show, and many regional and local bands. Down County Social Club, Country Life Real Estate, Catskill Tents, Ghent Wood Products, CMH Rapid Care-Copake, and Harney Tea have all sponsored bands, with St. James Place sponsoring the up-and-coming popular regional band Bill and the Belles who played Dewey Hall and Naumkeag at Night on their recent Northeast tour.

The music and dance at the festival includes Old-Time, Bluegrass, Cajun, Swing Jazz, and Folk, all robustly informed by their traditional origins. Local vendors and locally sourced food is a highlight of the festival experience.

OldTone Music (and dance) Festival announces new site plan; early bird tickets expire at midnight

Oldtone Roots Music Festival
September 7-10, 2017
Cool Whisper Farm, N. Hillsdale, NY

has announced its layout for 2017

For those who attended this tiny gem (as they say, "Think Winterhawk/Nobett Hill!") last year, you will see a huge improvement this year. The main stage is being moved away from the farm compound, to the area occupied last year by day parking. The workshop stage will be moved to the former main stage location.

But the best news is camping has been added closer to the main grounds, above the main stage! This means campers will be able to see and hear main stage acts from their sites!

Love the new layout!

Note: map is stylized and not to scale.

From the festival:

Dear Friends and Family,
We wanted to take a moment to make sure all those that want to come to Oldtone 2017 have saved the dates & telling their friends!
We are having a lot of fun planning this years festival, and it is challenging and time-consuming to found a Roots Arts Organization. We are dedicated and working very hard to make sure Oldtone is successful and we thank everyone we know personally that has helped Oldtone so in the last year. It has been amazing to have so many wonderful people pitch in and support our vision.
We wanted to let you know that the time to get tickets is now. Early Bird Day & Camping Tickets save substantial buckaroos! So please take advantage of it, it’s a great way to support the festival and save money too. You can get your tickets here:
Another great way to help is to be an Oldtone Volunteer, which gives you comp tickets, and makes you a part of our growing Oldtone Family. Volunteering is actually really fun, and having reliable people we know take on those simple jobs is a huge help for us! Please contact Beth if you would like to Volunteer: beth@oldtonemusicfestival.com or click on this link: Volunteer at Oldtone!!

In addition this year we are adding the option to be a personal sponsor and financial supporter of Oldtone Roots Music Festival and join us in our mission to preserve, teach, and create experiences of the American Oral tradition that is Roots Music. Contact Beth about sponsoring a band, having your name in the program, or having your name burned into the main stage posts for the life of the stage. More info coming soon.

We’ve had so much fun planning this year’s line up. And there are some big improvements such as moving the main stage to a much better spot, with the main camping in a horseshoe shape all around it! Think Winterhawk/Nobett Hill!

Please Spread The Word. Facebook shares, posts, and forwarding an email or two about Oldtone really does help, and we rely on you helping us spread the word.

Hold on to Your Socks, the OLDTONE ROOTS MUSIC AND DANCE FESTIVAL is Going to Blow Them Off!

Hold on to Your Socks, the OLDTONE ROOTS MUSIC AND DANCE FESTIVAL is Going to Blow Them Off!

Oldtone Roots Music Festival: Unprecedented convergence of the best in
American traditional music.

“Participation is Preservation”

(Great Barrington, MA, and Ancramdale, NY) - Festival producer Dads “Bet the Farm” on their passion for Old Time music!  All with young families of 2 young kids each, these guys aim to further bridge gaps in the modern roots music world.

The Oldtone Roots Music and Dance Festival is a new venture founded and produced by the dynamic trio of Kip Beacco, Matt Downing, and Jim Wright, well-known Northeastern artists in American Roots music world. This is the second year of the event featuring traditional Appalachian folk, bluegrass, hot swing, old-time country, brass, Cajun and contra music. The dates are September 8, 9, 10, & 11, 2016.

“We are creating a platform for traditional music to be experienced and enjoyed without some of the trappings of larger festivals. Oldtone Roots focuses on preserving the more traditional side of American Roots music through playing, learning, dancing, and singing. The 4-day camping festival will include classes and workshops, formal and informal jams, and contests. The festival celebrates traditional acoustic music with a down-to-earth, inclusive, and welcoming vibe.”
- Jim Wright.

The informal motto of the festival is “Participation is Preservation”. The festival will include contra, square, and swing dancing, workshops, classes, and performances on three stages.  Known and respected artists of Old Time Music will be performing and teaching.

The event is an earth friendly family focused camping adventure on the stunning 150 acre Cool Whisper Working Family Farm in Hillsdale, NY. Cool Whisper is owned by Matt and Lisa Schober. Festival attendees will be able to see (from a distance) highland cattle amidst mountain views and rolling fields. Day tickets are also available.
