I met Genticorum several years ago at the former New Bedford Summerfest where I volunteered as a stage tech. We do a lot of improvisation, but one of the strangest set-up's was using a gaff taped shoe to hold a floor mic. If you do not know why a floor mic is used for this band, come to the show tonight to find out. They rock! And if you love the band see me there to find out where they will be Friday night. By the way,Casey Driessen rocks, too!

"For a three piece, Genticorum makes a very full and glorious noise, both instrumentally and vocally… This is a band that’s going to go places."

SING OUT!

Over the past decade the trad Quebec group Genticorum (Pascal Gemme, Alexandre de Grosbois-Garand and Yann Falquet) has become a fixture on the international world, trad, folk and Celtic music circuit. The trio’s four albums met with critical acclaim in Canada, the United States and Great Britain, assuring the band a brilliant future. Known for its energy and its stage presence (and often mistaken for a larger ensemble), Genticorum has given more than 800 concerts in no fewer than 15 countries – and is showing no sign of slowing down: this is a band in high demand.

Firmly rooted in the soil of their native land, the energetic and original traditional ‘power trio’ also incorporates the dynamism of today’s North American and European folk cultures in their music. They weave precise and intricate fiddle and flute work, gorgeous vocal harmonies, energetic foot percussion and guitar and bass accompaniment into a big and jubilant musical feast. Their distinctive sound, sense of humour and stage presence make them a supreme crowd pleaser.

Fiddle Deis comes to Brandeis, 3/15-17

FOLK/CELTIC/JAZZ/CAJUN/KLEZMER/BAROQUE/BLUEGRASS, etc.

Thanks to Barbara Cassidy for alerting me to this. "Fiddle Festival at Brandeis University, Waltham, is coming up in March. Three days of workshops and performances."

What a lineup! I am posting this today because you will want to get tickets before it sells out.

Go all three days if you can, but if you cannot I highly recommend, because 100% of the musicians have either performed in my own notloB Folk Concerts series or have very close ties, going Friday night. But if you prefer jazz, Saturday looks to be the day. But if you prefer Baroque / classical. Sunday is your day.

A word of warning, unless the situation has changed, parking at Brandeis can be a challenge.

Grey Fox announces early-early list of bands and artists

From Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival:
Grey Fox is super excited to announce an early-early list of bands and artists who will with us this summer. They are: Tim O'Brien with Bryan Sutton, Casey Driessen and Mike Bub; Gibson Brothers, Jerry Douglas,The Duhks, Carolina Chocolate Drops, Della Mae, and hosted by Dry Branch Fire Squad -- with many more tba. July 18-21 in Oak Hill, NY. http://www.greyfoxbluegrass.com/

Looks impressive, but with all due respect to Casey and Mike, who are top notch players, the downside of Tim's new accompanists in place of Pete Wernick and  Nick Forster is Red Knuckles and the Trailblazers will not be gracing the dance tent stage this year.

I certainly hope the Duhks lineup will include Duncan Wickel, who filled in for them for ten gigs last year, ending at the sister Rhythm and Roots festival.

Grey Fox always delivers. This advance lineup is just the tip of the iceberg.
