notloB is five!

It’s hard to believe but notlob’s first concert was five years ago, June 2, 2007. The first was to have been Mike and Ruthy on June 9 but as things serendipitously happen, we started a week sooner with Sometymes Why, on June 2, then Mike and Ruthy as originally planned the following week. This anniversary message is being composed to the sounds of Mike and Ruthy, thanks to their always wonderful and informative website embellished with audio. notloB will forever be thankful to Aoife O’Donovan, Ruthy Ungar, Kristin Andreassen and Mike Merenda for being our pioneering artists.

notloB Folk Concerts has now presented 88 old-time, blue/newgrass, folk, Celtic and acoustic blues artists to audiences throughout the greater Boston area, namely our anchor venues, the historic Loring-Greenough House (built in 1760) in Jamaica Plain, and the Unity Somerville, but also at the Park Avenue Congregational Church in Arlington, the Democracy Center in Cambridge, the Clarendon Hill Presbyterian Church in Somerville and the Jackson Homestead in Newton. The concerts are volunteer-run and not for profit. 100% of the patron donations go to the artists and production expenses.
Thanks to all who have contributed to the continued success of the series, the artists, the volunteers the venues, the sound engineers and most importantly the patrons.
Two of the musicians who have performed in the series, Jack Hardy and John McGann, have passed. Rest in peace, your music and spirit live on.
notloB Folk Concerts are dedicated to the memory of Jack Hardy (d. March 11, 2011), who, with David Massengill and Peggy Seeger, graced our stage November 1, 2008, and John McGann (d. April 6, 2012), who with Flynn Cohen, Matt Heaton, and Danny Noveck performed as the Deadstring Ensemble on November 20, 2012. Rest in peace, gentlemen!

A look back at our first five years…
