In 2004 the STONEWALK journey with September 11th Families for Peaceful Tomorrows went through Norwalk Connecticut where the Stonewalkers gathered for a night of music with Pete Seeger. Connie and Bruce Taylor, longtime friends of Pete arranged the evening. The newspaper quoted Seeger as saying" "This is what life's all about. Retiring and watching the world go to hell is no way to stay optimistic. Every time I get a crowd singing with me, I get a surge of optimism." Later Connie nominated Pete for the Courage of Conscience Award. On January 19th, the day after the Washington pre-inaugural celebration at the Lincoln Memorial where Pete performed with Bruce Springsteen, Pete Seeger received the Courage of Conscience Award. It was presented by Dan Dick, Peace Chaplain and musician, who traveled with Peace Abbey volunteers Madeline Champagne and Brian Cron to Beacon, New York for the event. Pete signed a book for The Peace Abbey and of course Dan's banjo!
